Inniscarra Townlands

Berrings Macra na Feirme was  founded in 1957. The first officers were the late Michael Richardson, Ballyshonin (Chairperson), the late Michael Desmond, Ballyanly (Secretary) and Angela O'Herlihy, Berrings (Treasurer). One of the first events organised was a trip to Ballybunion in August. The club was  very active with members attending various meetings, functions, competitions, Macra rallies, field days, day trips and even trips abroad. In 1959 the club travelled to Germany on their first overseas tour. Field Days were a very important source of club funding in the early days and were also a great opportunity for a social outing. The first Berrings Macra na Feirme field day was held on Hennessy's field in Cloghroe and was attended by 32 clubs from all over the county. Members covered many miles throughout the county attending various field days, with the prospect of competing at the Cork Summer Show. Throughout the 60's the club were victorious in events such as debating and club question time.
In 1972 Berrings Macra called a meeting to form a committee of all the different clubs in the parish in order to build Inniscarra Community Centre. Throughout the 70's the club became very involved in drama, with many successes along the way. The club's dedication to drama paid off with All Ireland victory in 1977 with the play "The Paddy Peddler", directed by the late Pat Carroll. The club was again successful with another All Ireland win in 1984 with the play "The Lovers", directed by Pat Carroll and Pat Healy. The club's drama group celebrated their success with a trip to London. The 80's continued with field days being an important outing for club members. Dances and discos were also part of the weekend's highlights. Venues included Icarus in Blarney and the community centre in Ballyanly where people would arrive to enjoy the performing bands. Macra remained very farming orientated with practical competitions and courses including welding and car/tractor maintenance among others. In the early 90's Berrings Macra raised £1031.80 in aid of "Aid Cancer Treatment" by organising a Bale Push. The club remained interested in performing arts with focus switching to light entertainment. Some members had the privilege of performing in the Cork Opera House. In 1994/1995 Berrings Macra won the All Ireland Capers Final with the show "Get an Earful of This", produced by Michael Moynihan. The club returned to All Ireland success again in 1997 by winning the first of 3-in-a-row Capers finals. Throughout the 90's talented club members also had many successes at Dublin City Talent Contest, along with other competitions. The 2000's continued with more success in performing arts as well as agricultural competitions such as farm skills and beef stock judging. In 2007 Berrings Macra na Feirme celebrated its 50th Anniversary  in Christy's Hotel, Blarney. The celebration was well supported with over 200 guests in attendance. Guests of honour on the night were National President Catherine Buckley, Willie & Eileen Hennessy and Fr. Peadar Murphy. In recent years the club has been no stranger to All Ireland Finals in various competitions.
In August 2013 Aileen Hennessy returned from Dundrum, Co. Tipperary as International Miss Macra. At the Waterford Rally the following October the club were Runners-Up in the National Club of the Year competition. Berrings were again top of the Capers teams with All Ireland success, with the show "Don't Stop Us Now". This was produced by Eileen Keady and Tim Mullane. The club were also successful in sporting competitions with All Irelands in Ladies Soccer and Lads Basketball. Following the most recent AGM club officers of Berrings Macra na Feirme are Aileen Hennessy, Vicarstown (Chairperson), Norma Downing, Grenagh (Secretary), Mags O'Leary, Ballyshonin (Treasurer) and Philip O'Leary, Carrigrohane (PRO).
Down through the year's the aim of the organisation was the education and social development of young people in rural areas. While methods of communication have increased from local advertising to texting and Facebook the core of Macra na Feirme has remained the same. It is always character building and contributes to personal development of each member.
